Target Photo Restoration and Printing: What to Expect
Target stores are convenient and widely accessible, and many people assume they offer photo services including restoration. Here's what Target Photo actually provides and how to use it for old family photographs.
Target's Current Photo Services
Target's in-store photo services have changed significantly in recent years. As of 2026:
Target Photo (via CVS Photo Centers): Many Target locations include a CVS pharmacy with CVS Photo services — including in-store photo kiosks and 1-hour photo prints. The "Target Photo" service at these locations is actually CVS Photo.
Target Photo online (shutterfly.com via Target): Target.com's photo products are fulfilled through Shutterfly — photo books, canvas prints, and gifts ordered online and shipped. These are not in-store prints.
Status varies by location: Some older Target Photo centers that were independent have closed or transitioned. Check your specific location.
What Target/CVS Photo Offers for Old Photos
In-store (via CVS Photo):
- 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 prints, 1-hour availability
- Basic editing at the kiosk: brightness, contrast, red-eye
- No restoration capability
Online (via Shutterfly):
- Photo books, canvas prints, wall art, gifts
- Higher quality prints than in-store kiosk
- Standard Shutterfly capabilities — prints what you upload
Target Photo does not restore photographs. It prints the file you provide. Old family photos need to be restored before being sent to Target Photo.
Workflow: Restore → Print at Target
Step 1: Scan the original print at 600 DPI (library scanners are free).
Step 2: Restore at ArtImageHub ($4.99, 30–90 seconds). Download HD restored file.
Step 3a (In-store prints): Upload to CVS Photo app or kiosk → choose size → pick up at Target location within an hour.
Step 3b (Quality prints and photo books): Order online at target.com photo → Shutterfly fulfills → ships to your address or Target store.
Target vs. CVS vs. Walgreens for In-Store Prints
Since many Target photo centers are CVS-operated:
| Service | Same-hour | 4×6 Price | Quality | |---------|-----------|-----------|---------| | CVS (at Target) | ✅ Yes | ~$0.35 | Basic | | Walgreens | ✅ Yes | ~$0.35 | Basic | | Walmart Photo | ✅ Yes | ~$0.28 | Good | | Costco (members) | ✅ Same day | ~$0.17 | Excellent |
For standard 4×6 prints of restored photos, Walmart Photo offers the best combination of quality and price. For same-hour convenience at Target locations with CVS: acceptable quality.
For Photo Books
Target's online photo book ordering (Shutterfly) is the same quality as ordering directly from Shutterfly.com, with the same pricing. The only difference: Target sometimes runs independent promotions on photo products alongside Shutterfly's own sales.
For restored family photo books, ordering directly from Shutterfly.com or during a Snapfish/Mixbook sale typically offers better pricing than through Target's website.
